ExecutiveCoaching 101

What is a leadership coach or an executive coach? What do you have to do to be a successful executive or career coach?

For most people, the terms executive coach and leadership coach are interchangeable. What it comes down to is developing organizational leadership. The first and most important thing an executive coach does is to help you develop as a person. It is this personal development that will allow you to tap into your potential as a great leader.

It all starts with deep self-analysis so that you thoroughly know yourself, your passions, your interests, your talents and skill set, your strengths and weakness, and you also deeply understand the values that drive you. Do you know how to bring out the best within yourself and inspire others to do the same? Can you build a solid team which works cohesively to master their self-defined objectives? If not, you might want to consider hiring a leadership or executive coach.

A leadership coach can help you hone in on your most compelling attributes while you simultaneously harness your ability to motivate and inspire. An executive coach can be instrumental to helping an organization succeed in today’s highly competitive business environment.

How effective is executive coaching or leadership coaching?

The numbers can speak for themselves. Manchester Inc. surveyed 100 business executives, most of whom were from Fortune 100 companies, who had previously worked with executive coaches.

More than half said that their productivity went up. Nearly half said that organizational strength improved. More than three quarters said that they had better relationships with their employees and slightly less than three quarters reported better relationships with their supervisors.
